Private Baseball Lessons
The goal of these private baseball lessons is to work with each player individually on either a specified area of your choice, or on the game in general with an aim on obvious weaknesses. Although players can have unique styles, it is critical that certain aspects of the game are mechanically sound. Regardless of what we work on (hitting, pitching, fielding, etc.) the initial focus of any lesson is to get everything fundamentally correct. You may be surprised to find how easily certain things come once the basics are in order. In addition, this greatly reduces the risk of future injuries. We can work on any aspect of the game that you desire, and as soon as the basics are in order, we will move on to more advanced concepts and techniques. There is no age or level of player that could not benefit from private instruction.
At this time, most of my lessons are in Pell City, Al. But anyone in the Birmingham-Helena-Pell City area is welcome.

A little bit about me...
My name is Matt Halpert, and I grew up in Houston, Tx where I played a great deal of baseball. As I like to say, "I grew up on the ballfield," and baseball is something I know inside and out. As someone that played the game year round for close to 20 years, I had my share of practices, games, private lessons, camps, and anything else you can think of. I, and the teams I was a member of, had great deals of success over the years facing top-tier competition. After 4 years of varsity baseball in high school, I went on to play for Southwestern University, where I became a starter my freshman year. Ultimately, I did have the opportunity to attempt to make it in the "Bigs," which was tempting. I currently have several former teammates/friends playing major league baseball, such as Scott Kazmir, Josh Beckett, James Loney, and Chris Snyder to name a few. I've had hitting and pitching lessons with several major leaguers, such as Jesse Barfield (who was/is Alex Rodriguez's hitting coach), and Roger Clemens. In part, this has given me a wealth of drills and concepts that I can pass on to others. So trying to make it in the majors was one possibility. On the other hand, I also could have accepted a spot at UAB Graduate school to earn my Ph.D in Microbiology and Immunology. Based on the fact that I now live in Helena, Al, I think the decision I made is an obvious one. So my wife and I moved to Alabama, where I am now a couple of years into my doctoral studies. I have experience as a player, umpire, coach, and private instructor, and have been giving individual lessons for over 5 years now. I still love to be on the ballfield, and I love to work with kids and watch them improve as they learn how to play this game the right way.
